Sport is an all-round phenomenon that takes on political, ideological and cultural dimensions, deserving to be investigated on a par with other social realities. Football attracts unparalleled media attention and takes on ideal, economic and even political values that other sports rarely achieve; it is the discipline that most lends itself to becoming an object of analysis and this is especially true in the political and social context of the Balkans. Indeed, in Balkan societies, football retains a symbolic potential of paramount importance, and the world of regional supporters represents a very interesting field of investigation.
